South Africa

April 1, 2012
Cape Town, South Africa

What a tremendous 7 days
.
Over the weekend, I got to hang out with Kevin Eubanks. Got a few drinks, and made my connection.

Wednesday, I got to Dulles Airport and met up with the homie Federico Peña. We made the same flight.

26 hours, aircraft full of screeching babies, and 3 airports later, we landed in Cape Town.

The next morning we had a spectacular view of the Table Mountain.

Traveled to Andrew Sinton high school and performed for the students.

Visited the Amy Biehl Foundation. (google it, fascinating story), then went to see my man Jay Williams perform with Dave Koz at the Cape Town jazz fest.

The next morning we went to a school in one of the town ships. Hugh Masakela refers to their place of living as "refugee camps". It sure looked like it. But the kids were so joyous, i wanted to take one of them home. It was a fascinating experience. We performed for them, they performed for us, we shared some amazing musical moments.

We then took a boat ride to Seal Island at Hout Bay, then headed back to the jazz fest an watched Fede with Marcus Miller and a spectacular performance by Hugh Masakela.

It has definitely been the most rewarding tours so far.
Now we're off on a 16 hour bus ride to Johannesburg.

Will update soon.
Cheers!
