Post Tour/Music 2013

Fall is officially upon us. November is here. Plans for Thanksgiving have begun. The "People Hear What They See" tour is over.

It's been an amazing 2 months on the road. Met some incredible people. Played some incredible places. Had quite an adventure, especially driving from Toronto back home through Hurricane Sandy!

So, what's next? Well, Oddisee has decided that he can not bring the band to the west coast due to circumstances he could not control. He will, in fact, be out there with Olivier Day Soul.

Until then, Ill be home, working on brand new music. My band, The Grand, will be back in rehearsal mode. I'll be playing local gigs in DC with the Brazilian band and others.
Be on the lookout for another, yes another, beat tape!

thanks to everyone who came out to the shows and showing their true support.

next update coming soon.

PHWTS tour

Europe is an amazing place to visit simply for its culture. I've learned this over the past near decade.

With that said, being on tour with Oddisee for the "People Hear What They See" album has been a wonderful experience.

We started in the UK performing in Birmingham. A good, but small crowd enjoyed what we brought from the states musically. But to be honest, for us it was a dress rehearsal for the big show in London at the infamous Jazz Cafe.

When we arrived, Unown (MPC-er) was emotionally taken back at how surreal it was to be performing there. Seeing photos of George Duke, Badu, Stevie Wonder, and Yasin Bey just made our show that much more fun.

The performance was spectacular. Tranqill opened and performed with us. The infamous Omar joined us for a number. And the crowd couldnt've been better.

Amsterdam was incredible partly because of the day off we had.
We all went and had dinner at Full Crate's crib. (AWESOME!!)
But Germany has shown us that they are true lovers of hip hop music.

Tonight we're in Berlin. It's laundry day and we ran into a member of lady Gaga's camp. Hopefully we'll be able to hang with Spanky and the others for some kind of shed.

Tomorrow we're off to Switzerland.

Check back later folks!

Cheers!

Oddisee, RPM, Muhsinah, and more.

It's been a few months, but a lot has been going on. Here's the update

Last Friday was the first performance of the band WHITE DENIM featuring DC producer/emcee Oddisee. In support of his recent release, People Hear What They See, the band will be performing locally and soon internationally this fall on a world tour.
Oddisee- vox
Olivier Day Soul- guitar and vox
Ralph Real- keys and vox
Dennis Turner- bass
Jon Laine- drums
Unown- MPC

This Thursday will be the official release party performance at Montserrat House in WDC. (peep the flyer for more info)

I have also been back at it with my new band, The Grand. With Niko Laget- sax, Dan Paul- keys, Brock Smith- guitar and sampler, Hamilton Hayes- bass, and me on drums, the band looks to record a demo this fall with some show dates to follow.

I also returned to the drum chair backing up sensational singer, producer, and pianist, Muhsinah. Following her national tour, she played a welcome home concert at the Black Cat in DC.  With just she and I at the helm, it was a great turn out that only made us play to our greatest ability.

In addition, RPM has released the single and video of their new album. The video to Box of Fire has gained popularity in the past week since it's release. peep your boy in the video!

I haven't forgotten about the beats though,  I should be mixing an EP by emcee Ardamus and myself later this summer.

Don't forget to follow me on twitter and instagram (@jonlaine) and Like my facebook fan page of the same name.

until then....
